Batman V Superman Review: “Not As Bad As The Critics Are Saying”

For Dawn of Justice, the viewers and reviewers are divided in two factions right now: either you love the movie, or you utterly despise it. But for a person who doesn’t jump onto the hype-train or the hate-wagon so soon without judging the movie from a neutral standpoint, I’m lying somewhat in the middle, or you might say I’m leaning more towards the positive. Sure, it has a ton of flaws but let’s discuss why BvS wasn’t such a bad movie after all.

The Story:

Excerpt taken from IMDb:

Following his titanic struggle against General Zod, Metropolis has been razed to the ground and Superman is the most controversial figure in the world. While for many he is still an emblem of hope, a growing number of people consider him a threat to humanity, seeking justice for the chaos he has brought to Earth. As far as Bruce Wayne is concerned, Superman is clearly a danger to society. He fears for the future of the world with such a reckless power left ungoverned, and so he dons his mask and cape to right Superman’s wrongs. The rivalry between them is furious, fueled by bitterness and vengeance, and nothing can dissuade them from waging this war. However, a dark new threat arises in the form of a third man: one who has a power greater than either of them to endanger the world and cause total destruction.

My Take on the Movie:

First of all let’s take a look at the problems.

“It has no plot!”, “Too many loopholes”, “A snore-fest”, “Terrible character development”, “Too rushed”, “Didn’t make sense.”

These are among the FEW complaints that the critics and viewers have with the movie, and they’re not completely wrong. It does suffer from a lot of loopholes, it is rushed, and a lot of things don’t really make sense if you haven’t been following the comics. But please don’t say that it has no plot. It has plenty of it. In fact it has TOO MUCH plot, that’s why it felt all crammed and complicated in the first place.

You know what’s the biggest problem with BvS? It’s that DC is trying to play catch-up with Marvel. That’s the main issue, and it is a BIG one.

What DC doesn’t realize is that Marvel has been in the game for far too long now. They started building up for the expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2008 when Nick Fury made an appearance in the after credits scene in Iron Man 1. That was the first seed Marvel planted, which has now grown into the gigantic Redwoods now.

My Tiny Little Haven

Many people may think that living in a small house with only one proper bedroom for a family of four must have been suffocating, but I believe that it is because of that small home I now have such a close-knit family. Mine is what you may call an “in-sync” household. It is one of the biggest blessings of life to have a stable and happy family unit, and I’m proud to say that I can count that in my set of blessings as well.

But that doesn’t mean that when I slept at night on the floor of my parents bedroom (myself on Mom’s side of the bed, and my brother on Dad’s side of the bed) I didn’t wish for a bigger home with a room of my own. Having my own room had been one of THE biggest dreams of my life; a room in which I could sleep on my own bed, a room which I could decorate as I wanted, have a view from the window into my own lawn, with my own TV, my own bookshelf; a space to call MY OWN! And thanks to the Allah Almighty, that dream was eventually fulfilled 6 months ago.

So ladies and gents, today I just wanted to share a part of my life with you guys which means a LOT to me. It may not be impressive to many of you, but it is my own tiny little haven – a.k.a. Miss Potahto’s Headquarters.

This is the front view when you enter my room.

I have to admit, my most favorite part of the room is my window bench. I do most of my book-reading there. You know, I always saw these girls in movies during those sad scenes sitting in their window seats, staring out into the gloomy rain and looking glamorous AH, therefore I wished that maybe one day I can also stare out into the rain and look all philosophical and contemplative. So one of the perks of getting to design the entire map of the new home with my own hands was that I could squeeze in one cool looking window bench. Yeah, my room is the smallest in the home, because I myself insisted I didn’t want a big one.

The view from the other side.

One of the reasons I had disappeared from WordPress for the past few days was that me and my Mom were busy buying a new bed, a new bookshelf and a TV for my room. Yes I waited 6 months for all this (we were a little tight on the budget.) The bookshelf is custom made. Many people would say, “That’s one tiny-ass bookshelf, you should’ve gotten a larger one.” But I wanted to decorate that side of the wall as well so I had to sacrifice on its height. 😦

“Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2” – A Potahto Review

Was I living in a cave all this time? (no Bat-Pun intended)

It’s been almost a year since it’s release and NOW I’m watching this wonderful gem of a movie!?! Shame on me!!!

Batman and Superman

Alright, so I haven’t seen the Part 1 of this series… actually I’m not much of a DC animation movies fan. I don’t know why but I just don’t find them as interesting as the Hollywood movies, but DAMN this movie forced me to change my views! Actually if I come down to it, honestly speaking, this was (on some levels) better than “The Dark Knight Rises”. If any of you has seen this will know why am I saying this. This is purely my opinion and I’m open to criticism. Continue reading
